Every Wednesday I see my friend Megan, and she always asks the same question:
“You going to Bootcamp tomorrow?”
Well I am now, I think to myself, as I respond with an enthusiastic, “Yep! Are you?”
The power of a workout buddy is amazing. It’s the second reason I go to my workout classes each week. The first reason is because I put it in my schedule. If it's not in my planner, I'm not going (sometimes I don't go even when it's in my planner!).
If you can’t quite make it to the gym each week, try these two tactics:
1. First, take out your calendar and create time slots each day for working out. If you like workout classes, take out your gym’s class schedule and see where your schedule aligns with it. Otherwise, pencil in “running” or “walking” in the time slots you’ve created. Actually, you should put it in pen, so you can’t erase it!
2. Then find a buddy. It can be your spouse, a friend, or someone you’ve met at the gym. In fact, your buddy doesn’t even have to go to the gym with you. I know two ladies who are workout buddies, and they don’t even workout together. They call each other every morning at 4:30 am. One goes to her gym and bikes for 45 minutes. The other heads to her living room and does a workout video. They don’t workout together, but they workout.
Workout buddies are helpful because no one wants to let someone else down by not showing up. Not to mention, working out is more fun with friends. A few months ago, Megan and I dragged our husbands and friends to Bootcamp. And you better believe everyone wanted to go the next week too because it was fun!
Finally, I think I actually workout harder when my friends are there because of my competitive nature :) I have to do better than my husband!
Make a schedule, grab a friend, and get moving!
