That's him! Siggi. He's the real deal. I was honored to be one of the dietitians invited to have breakfast with him back in July. If you're one of my clients or friends, then you know about my obsession with Siggi's yogurt. I honestly can't remember how I was first introduced to it. But, it was love at first bite. Why? Because it was flavorful and not too sweet. It's nearly impossible to find a yogurt in America that isn't saturated with loads of sugar or artificial sweeteners. Siggi found the same thing when he came to the U.S. from Iceland. He decided to bring skyr, the Icelandic style of yogurt, to the U.S. Making skyr was his side hobby while he was working in New York. But, he soon decided that he loved making yogurt more than his full-time gig, so he quit his job and started making yogurt full-time. I'm sure glad he did!
Of course, plain yogurt is going to be your healthiest option. But, let's be honest, sometimes you want some flavor in your yogurt, and you don't want to have to add it yourself. Enter Siggi's. Icelandic style yogurt is similar to Greek yogurt. However, many of the flavored Greek yogurts on the market still have over 15 grams of sugar in one serving. That's why I prefer Siggis - it has more protein than sugar. And, you can actually taste and appreciate the flavors in the yogurt.
Siggi took us through the process of making skyr and then we, of course, got to enjoy a variety of Siggi's yogurt with a plethora of healthy topping options. #rdheaven
